A short video wherein I introduce myself, explain the concept of my entry, and unbox the GEMMA sensor pack.
But if you aren't a video-watching person, here's the gist:
And you are…?
Hi, I'm Barbara. I'm a design researcher and writer in New York City. Sometimes I write about cool technology things. Now I'm crossing the line from writer to maker.
What is that on your head?
My entry in the Hats Off Challenge is the "Fleet Fascinator," an eye-catching hat that uses an accelerometer to measure the wearer's movement. This data is then used to change the intensity and color-temperature of the NeoPixels. Basically, the more you move, the brighter the LEDs and the more they change from blue to green, yellow, orange, and red. It's gonna look cool, guys. Trust me.
Can you show us what's in the box?
Surprise! It's exactly what they show in this picture of the GEMMA Sensor Pack. But in person, one realizes just how small and lightweight the components are. And if you're like me, the Lithium Ion battery makes you want to speak with a fake British accent. Who knew?
Thanks for reading. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm happy to answer 'em.
