Hats Off Fascinator 13: Mad Hatting

A post wherein I put the components on the hat base, cover it, and play with plastic.

Glued to the Base

I knew from my paper prototype just where everything needed to go. Glue wasn't working so well so I got out a big needle and some thread and just sewed everything in place. I really thought that I'd filmed this bit but when I went back to look at my files, I couldn't find it.

Got You Covered

I had some grey suede scrap fabric to use as a component cover and foundation for affixing the plastic. I cut out a circle larger than my hat base and glued about 3/4 of it down, using bobby pins to hold it in place while the glue dried. I cut out holes for the two NeoPixels that are directly on the hat base and let the other two poke out of the flap. Used velcro to secure the Gemma access flap.

Plastic Play Time

I started fussing with how the plastic will look. I made a couple of semi-realistic plastic roses but I think I prefer a more abstract aesthetic. Plus, the heavily-layered roses won't let as much light through. And I'd like to maintain as much light impact as possible in the final result.
