So here I am writing my first blog on Smarter Life Challenge. Let me start with how I got here – it was just the chance of noticing the word “Challenge” in the subject of an email that I was about to delete together with many other emails that make it to my mail box every day. I opened that email and I read what it was about – a challenge and I thought “yes” I like challenges let me find out more.
Then I saw where it said that competitors will build smarter life projects and I liked that idea and then I saw what type of projects: to enhance their home, office, or car – so I had three choices; which one shall I pick? Car? I always treated the car only as a tool to get me from here to there not more than that, I then realized that I haven’t opened the hood for the last almost two years, I haven’t washed it this year and I haven’t vacuuming it inside since my cousin came to visit me last year. Yeah, I just decided that I cannot possibly build any smart project for a car. Next the office … wow!, I spend so many hours there so maybe I can come up with something… but do I really want that? Will that attract me to spend even more time there? So I passed on the office choice either.
The third option was home. Yes, I like to be home, I always like especially when my wife comes up with all kind of ideas where to go in weekends… I always say that I like to stay home, I am gone most of the time during the week and I like to just stay home in weekends. So home should be my choice of smart life challenge.
But what shall I do? What do I like to see that would help me enjoy even more being at home? Immediately my thoughts slid to picturing myself on the couch and do nothing, now since this is not totally possible I though what about if I can control my TV just from sitting down and doing nothing? Just to control it by thinking of turning it on and off, thinking of changing the channel or turning the volume up or down? Sounds like science fiction but after reading more on published papers and articles I started to think that this might be possible. More, I could turn on the heater and adjust the temperature without getting up from the couch or I can turn on or off the light by just looking at the switch and thinking of it.
Will this be possible? I don’t really know now but I have some ideas that I will experiment in this project. So bear with me and my weakly updates along this time until January 17 when these dreams should become reality.
Good luck all of you contestants,
And let’s just try to have some fun along with the hard work on our projects.
Best Wishes,
Cosmin
