In school, I was a TA for analog courses. The professor I worked for used to say: "Analog engineers have a name for digital engineers working above 100 kHz. We call them noise."
All cultures have celebrations and many have costume festivities. Building on your idea, a competition to showcase costumes could be held anytime of year. Same with celebratory devices. Even if it doesn't make the October competition these ideas could be used in future.
