9 Nov 2015

As many of you know -- since you've worked hard for the last couple of months to get yourself the badge -- we have five copies of The BeagleBone Cookbook, signed by author and eminent electronics luminary Jason Kridner, to give away.

And today we're delighted to announce that fortunate five!

Tuned-Up Badge Winners

To land your copy of the BeagleBone Cookbook we asked you to earn the Tuned-Up badge before October 31st. And this is actually a tough badge to nail, requiring...image

Firstly, congratulations to everyone who's got there. No small task, and we're proud of those who made that special effort. Your names were all put into a top hat, which was dropped on the floor and the names foraged at random from underneath my desk, with the following element14 members bagging the book (double check your postal addresses are all up to date in your profiles):

  • Clem Martins clem57
  • David Pettit pettitda
  • Shabaz Yousaf shabaz
  • Andy Clark Workshopshed
  • Bob Alexander bobalexander

Nicely done guys, and we hope you enjoy your book (don't forget to put up a review of it so the rest of us know whether to add it to our workshop libraries), and let's hope it leads to lots more exciting BeagleBone projects.image

Oh, and don't forget; the Tuned-Up badge doesn't expire now that the competition is closed. Everyone can be a winner here, by landing the badge and adding to your not-inconsiderable element14 reputation!

Now that is the way you hook a young person into STEM. A little doggie on the cover means it has to be a fun book, right? DAB

How about these guys?  Maybe not quite the baby demographic, but slightly older.  I could see Boris really attracting them in at first, and then they would "stay" for the coding fun image

White is compatible, just doesn't have the on-board eMMC flash. It is just almost deprecated because it is relatively expensive (~$90, not really high volume). It has built-in JTAG and serial, which not a lot of people use. It has no HDMI, but that isn't likely a big deal. It runs a bit slower (720MHz vs. 1GHz).

What would you like in a 2nd edition? I've started a thread at http://beagleboard.org/cookbook for feedback.

I'd need to get someone involved that really knows how to write for kids. I'd happily support the effort and I'm sure Mark would as well. We are working on an educator board (http://beagleboard.org/education) that will pre-integrate a bunch of items from the Cookbook so that less experienced developers can get straight to programming without performing any wiring.
