I just wrote a reply to a discussion, and noticed that I'm now in the Level 8: Telsa club! If I'm honest I haven't been keeping a close eye on my points and levels and badges and such (always too busy posting the docs about getting points and levels and badges and such! image), but I wrote that quick post and there was Nikola staring back at me!

 

It also made me wonder about the general reaction to climbing levels -- do you just let them come as your points rack up naturally, or do you actively make an effort to reach the next level?

 

If you don't really watch the levels, what would make them of more interest to you?

    Okay, now this I did not know!  So I get that marking something helpful will award points to the person who provided the helpful knowledge, but the person who clicked helpful receives the same point value?

    Yes, according to Your Ranking: element14 Community Badges, Levels & Points

    if you mark a response helpful, you get 15 points as well as the person whose answer you marked. Which is the same as a blog post.

     

    Which I think is silly. But them's the rules.

    The missions generate interest and community involvement. This is good for element 14. The older people help by answering blogs to mostly newer folks here. That helps element 14 indirectly also. The levels indicate a certain seniority (or senior moments too). image The growth and vibrancy of the community is related to our sponsors involvement like NXP or TI along with element 14. New technology is sometimes tested giving valuable feedback for maybe the marketing or R&D folks. Good for the sponsors. So this is a closed system in a way. But new members give life and growth. Without new members the chance of more seniors goes down too.

    Interesting, I had read through there before and due to the "Mark a reply to your question" part, had assumed it only counted when you posted a question out to the forum and someone replied that you could mark helpful.  Not everything you click as helpful.  Those darn assumptions...  :-)

    One other consideration in the decision making process (for Road Tests) is the sponsor, and they can make decisions for other reasons.

     

    It's great that you understand your own limitations, and take the time to increase your knowledge.

    I get lots of info from the challenges and the best thing I've seen in recent years is the inter challenger co-operation and assistance.

     

    I think you'll find the mentoring thing is under way. I know it was discussed but the exact nature of how it should work without becoming a one on one and offline was a WIP.
