Our Design Challenges are Too Complicated... We should be solving the real problems..

Like designing products to solve why I'm stuck to this pleather chair in 83.8 deg F heatwaves and why we don't have a way to keep it cool.

If you're from the UK you'll know that air conditioning here really isn't a thing, and it's even harder if you're renting.

When you're working from home, this starts to get to be a challenge, a real hot one. There's only so much I can get from swamp coolers and fans blowing at me, and keeping the curtains shut.

What's worse though, is how hot the chairs are. Why on earth don't we have cooling chairs?

I mean, thermaltake have a cooling gaming chair. I'm not convinced about it though, but I'm even less convinced about this, which looks like five laptop fans stuck together in a pad:

We used to have a wild idea of design challenges where people managed to produce products that would sell... if someone can get away with selling this kind of thing on amazon, phew do we overthink things :D

But seriously... how can I cool this chair? Maybe I should have heatpipes in the base...

If you just want cool, .... Get a canvas beach chair, get it wet, put a fan under it, strip off your pants, and have seat. Of course, this assumes you are not in an open concept office....

Perhaps what is really needed .... is a heat-pump. Obligatory XKCD - this week's too: https://xkcd.com/2790/ We've had refrigerated CPUs in overclocked PCs ... (like this https://www.trustedreviews.com…

I own a phone peltier cooler, which I have sat on my wrist when I've been overly hot. I found it helped to bring my temperature down.

Thermo-electric cooling can plateau rather quickly and doesn't respond fast enough for spikes in temperature (which is why they're useless mostly for CPU cooling), but in this case where it's a steady increase/decrease it felt like it helped.

You could try a "Zone Tech Cooling Car Seat Cushion" available on Amazon, runs on 12V. You can use it in the office, but take it on road trips as well...

so it seems that even using limited power of portable device some effect can be obtained so building one into the chair would be possible

BTW - what is a military definition of "portable"? When two soldiers can carry it around. And how to convert stationary hardware into portable version? Install some handles for carrying...
