Confess your impulse purchases!

Fred27
Fred27 over 1 year ago

I'm sure everyone is all too familiar with spotting some cool stuff and not being able to resist. I know I'm definitely guilty.

Fess up to the stuff you really shouldn't have bought but did! Let's be honest, the most likely outcome is that some of us will likely join you - but then you'll probably feel less guilty about it.

I haven't been able to pull the trigger as it's not yet available in the UK, but I suspect I won't be able to resist when it does. I don't know exactly why I need a wire EDM machine, but I just feel that…

Last week at our annual local HAM yard sale, I couldn't say 'no' to this one. Was only CAD 10.- ! No idea what to use it for yet …

It is my wife's job to impulse buy. My life's role is strictly limited to funding.

Perhaps change the plan from point and shoot compact to a field camera. Slight smile

There were a couple of brothers from this part of the world who used to go rock climbing with an Underwood Instanto field camera, complete with glass plates

No GoPro on a helmet in those days.

My latest impulse buy was a RIGOL DS1104 Z plus with 16 channel probe set.  I already have two Oscilloscopes, but I wanted to upgrade my 15+ year old Tektronix TDS2014B.  The majority of the consulting proceeds go into a separate account that I get to use for hobby related purchases, so I had some surplus and decided to go ahead make an upgrade.

Other than that, I do tend to do a lot of ebay shopping for various robot and electronic kits that I can share with the grandkids when they come over.  Right now I am buying broken, original Furby's that I plan to upgrade for improved animations and maybe some ability to move (hidden wheels in the base).

Does any one know why when I reply to some threads the reply box works fine but in other threads (like this one) when I click on the OP's reply button the page moves down a bit but no reply box opens.

    But I can reply here.

My latest impulse buy was this:

nice. I was looking at the nanoVNA, the LiteVNA is better. Haven't cracked open the wallet for either one, trying to downsize the workspace from old stuff before adding new stuff. That task is not going well.

I am close to buying an SDR and VNA but have been thinking about it so long, I don't think it would be considered an impulse buy...

My last impulse buy was a Chinese thermal infrared camera for about 110 USD.

Not great resolution, but it actually does work and gives me a decent IR image of warm components.

Gave me an interesting picture of the dog as well.
