Content folders are spot on, but way too much organization for my spontaneous project builds. :-) 
 I really need a bin called obsolete inventory, which doesn't take long to happen.

For docker on Windows, I use Rancher Desktop, very convenient and no license issue like with Docker Desktop in an enterprise context. It gives you a docker CLI that you can use like what you would use under Linux.

I use PartDb for this purpose and can recommend. It take horrible amount of time to create reasonably detailed database of components and their locations, but in long term, it will save much more time and worth it.

PartDB is also solfhsoted. You run it in your own docker, then connect using browser from any device in local network.

I run it on Docker which runs on Debian Linux VM which runs on Hyper-V. So technically, yes, I run it on Windows.
