8-gang individually switched power strips hard to come by?

Andrew J

Well so it would seem.  If I wanted a rectangular 4x4, individually switched, surge protected extension lead, no problem.  If I wanted a 8x1 surge protected extension lead, no problem.  But a 8x1, 3-metre, individually switched, surge protected extension lead seems to be non-existent.  Has anyone come across anything like this - perhaps has better Google-fu than me?  UK socket.

On eBay, 166BatteryWorld are selling a configurable tower with 4 gang-per-layer (or 2-gang + 2-usb socket layer) which might work: although only a layer (4 sockets) are switchable.  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3M-Switched-Surge-Protected-Extension-Lead-UK-Plug-Tower-Multi-Socket-4-USB-Port-/32366697679…

I've not heard anything about them, they purport to ship from Portsmouth in 1 day yet are a Chinese company: we've all heard the horror stories about chinese-sourced power supplies when non-branded so I'd be a little concerned.  There are lots of sellers with the equivalent which doesn't help with confidence either.  Has anyone had any dealings with them?

Thanks,

Andrew

The eBay one's look like they might do but, as I say, I've heard a fair few horror stories about non-branded Chinese power supplies so I'm a bit wary. Yes, be aware that a lot of those cheap deals on the…

Perhaps speak to Olson... https://olsondirect.co.uk/8-way-13a-individually-switched-neon-fused-pdu.html?___SID=U they can do bespoke. Alternatively swap the plug for a surge protected plug-cap

Yes, I can find lots of those.  What I need (want) though is 8 individually switched with a 3m cable that isn't in a 4x2 but a 8x1 layout.  Hen's teeth.  Something like: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brennenstuhl-Premium-Line-extension-GERMANY-switch/dp/B00P142TPY/ref=pd_ybh_a_15?_encoding=UTF8…  but with each socket switched, although I could live with that for one of my purposes.  There is this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00YCAGVOS/ref=psdc_1098227031_t4_B00P142TPY  which give 8 + 4 with each bank switched which is like Shabaz's suggestion above.

Dave's pointer to Olsen looks ideal: 8 switchable with a separate earthing point with stud - I currently use a plug with stud.  The cost though....

Not really, it's US sockets and it would be a bit awkward to mount.  You honestly wouldn't think it would be so hard would you!? image

Amazon and CPC Sell a ProElec 8 Way Strip as 4 gang in parallel that may suit your needs; Pro Electrical 8 Way

Amazon also sell a Masgterplug Unit of the same format but I don't think it is surge protected; Masterplug 8 Way

Amazon also sell a Bestek unit that is 6 way; Bestek 6 Way

    Kind regards.

I like that one - may have to get one to replace the mess I have currently.
