Hi all, in the spirit of the e14 Community 2025 Holidays competition kicking off, I thought I would start up a discussion thread.

This is your space for sharing project ideas, discussing any challenges or successes that come up while building your projects, and also any general Holidays plans or conversation Snowflake️Snowman2️Christmas tree

You are also very welcome to DM me with any questions on competition details and so on Slight smile

I am thinking of making a solar powered smart pot. There are lots of cheap chinese models already available. But most of them requires continuous power supply. My last year project was an absolute drain on power. So I'm looking for some low power mcu with small form factor, small e-ink display. I already have a small i2c based load sensor which can be used to alert when water level is low. I only need to worry about water proofing the circuit.

Hopefully this will make anyone who wants to grow a plant as a new year resolution to take it seriously.

Good project idea. How reliable is the load sensor to indicate water level, as the plant grows it hopefully gains mass ? Just curious if your plant is decorative or provides herbs or fruit ?

This is the sensor family I'll be using.

This is indented to be a small indoor plant (but placed at window side of course) that doesn't grow up fast.

The above image is just for reference to show the display. The actual pot will look something like this.

Remembering to stick to new year resolutions and make them a routine can be tough (speaking just for myself...) so something that acts as a reminder and helps someone keep to a new routine sounds great Slight smile

I want to make a raspberry pi pico based mechanical keyboard. What do you think?

Bringing a mechanical keyboard to life in some way with a raspberry pi sounds interesting, I could think of plenty of ways you could make it Holidays-themed too.

Thanks. One way I learn what sensors are avaliable is seeing what other folks use. There are literally thousands of sensors and modules.

I wish there were an occasional "shopping cart" available as a prize. I would order a family of sensors to have in hand for impromptu projects.
