So I sit beside my 3D printer while I work everyday......

Its been months now since I last used it........

I feel bad because its a wonderful tool.....

I think I have printers block......

Now am I the only one in this boat?  Just curious I think I might have to try something soon but even just saying that doesn't mean it will happen.

ARG!,

Need some motivation lol

Hi Wesley, I have a similar problem with many of my tools and instruments. I some times go quite a while between bouts of creativity. I used to blame the lack of production and creativity on not having…

After the initial buzz of printing bits and bobs and fixing things my printer has sat quietly doing nothing.  I used it last weekend for the first time since November to print two small clips to stick a rPi onto din rail (thanks Thingiverse.)  I don't mind so much, as long as I'm not printing for printings sake and creating plastic waste.   I've got a few projects coming up when time allows and the printer will be invaluable then! Especially since it'll be printing it's own upgrade parts so I can replace the last of the wooden parts! To me It's a tool, just like some of the other tools I own.  They might only get used once or twice a year, but when I use them it's because they are the right tool for the job.

Come spring and light nights, it'll be re-mixed Pokemon garden cane tops so the kids don't have their eyes out, the caps for the trampoline to hold the side net on, bits to fix guttering, A replacement adjustment knob for the lawn mower, the list goes on.

Plus, at the moment it's freezing in the garage where my printer is.  I had problems with the nozzle temp and thermal runaway errors even with the de-humidifier / clothes dryer running in there.  It was a toasty 8C in there!  It needs an enclosure.

Mine is currently sat unused for a couple of months too. The problem is it sits in my lab where I work, but if I print something while I am in the room working I find that the fumes don't do me any good and I have to evacuate to another room. I have a few projects where I need to create some custom parts now though so I will be resurrecting it soon and getting printing!

I hope your printers block ends soon and you can get on with creating some really great items again! image

Don't worry about it, I find a quick trek through Thingiverse, Ranked by Popularity, solves that problem very quickly:

    https://www.thingiverse.com/explore/popular

Even if you print some fun things to help justify having the tool, it still gets you printing and keeps the printer in working order.

I have a few tools that I've either bought or had them as gifts and just not got around to using yet.

For me the 3D printer currently lives it it's box and is taken out when there is a quiet time in the kitchen. Because of the noise it makes it's not popular when others are also using the room.

My plan is to build a case for it with a small dehumidifier so that it can be run from the Workshopshed without disturbing anyone.
