My Parents were Makers before 1970

When you look at this pre-1970 photo of @me,

you can see that I'm offspring of a maker family

The late 60's were not really golden years (first house with warm water, bath, shower, flushing toilet in 1984), so a happy childhood depended on the maker spirit of the family.

All clothes except shoes made by mom. Wool recovered from discarded pull-overs

Toy made by dad. From throwaway wheelbarrow and bicycle parts, plus some scrap wood.

Reminds me of my time as a kid on a farm.

We always made things out of junk to play with.
I once made a three wheeled push cart because I only had three wheels.
I encourage others to just think about making stuff instead of buying expensive toys that you only use for a short time.

A great imagination will never let you be bored in life.

What a great post, Jan! I think we are emerging from a thankfully-brief period in which people were discouraged from making their own things. It's really cool to see this example of how making is not new, but something which connects us to how human beings have been throughout nearly all of our existence.
