2016 Members Awards - Winners Announcement

Who and What Came Out On Top in 2016

It seems like voting only just opened, but already Christmas looms and the polls have closed! So let's take a look at which projects, products and, most importantly, which of our members rand your bell this year!

And remember to come back and check out our 2016 Year in Review, which kicks off later this week and runs through to the New Year.

Product of the Year, 2016

Not a big surprise here, that the Raspberry Pi 3 smashed it by a significant margin.

RoadTest Review of the Year, 2016

The RoadTests were a bit closer, with the IBM-MBED IoT Starter Kit by shabaz coming out on top.

Project of the Year, 2016

Ohhh, and look at this! liamtmlacey's and fvan's project came out neck and neck, both landing a square 30% in the Project of the Year category! Controversial.

Member of the Year, 2016

Looks like shabaz totally nailed element14 Member of the Year for 2016! Very, very well earned, and I invite you to join me in congratulating him in the comments below! Well done Shabaz!

Ben Heck Build of the Year, 2016

This one surprised me a little; I was fully expecting the portable Atari to win out here, but the DIY Noven Laptop took a clear lead.

Thanks to everyone for voting in this years awards, and do post in the comments about any other highlights you particularly enjoyed on element14 this year, that perhaps didn't make it into one of the polls.

I think you may have a typo.

What happened was 'loco' not local.

    Congrats shabaz

There were several to choose from this year.

I think we need to find you a real job, one that actually has proper hours so that you prolific maker projects and blogging is subdued enough for others to have a fighting chance. image

Oh and with reference to Jan Cumps, I think a Full face helmet with the visor down should be mandatory. image

    Well done everyone/everything

    Hi Jan!

That would be very cool. We could have Captain America, Darth Vader, etc.. Clearly I was trying to get the feel of it for when moon landings would become routine. ; )

Thanks John, in fact it would be interesting seeing politicians trying to use a hot soldering iron : ). Rather than a photo shoot of them holding a fish at a factory or whatever.

I seem to remember some UK coding initiative led by someone who couldn't code themselves but stated teachers could learn to code in a day and then teach kids..

I didn't know you were allowed to put a helmet on for the mugshot. It would have benefited all of us.

    Congratz, shabaz !
