Celebrate the Year of the Dog with element14!

Xīnchūn kuàilè! image

Another year, another turn of the Lunar Calendar. As we've done in years past, we'd like to spend some time, celebrating the Chinese New Year (and of course, have a limited time badge you can earn). 2018 is the Year of the Dog, the faithful furry friend who have stood by our side from (almost) the very beginning.

Pack Instincts

According to the Chinese Zodiac (and to no surprise to anyone who has owned a canine companion), people born in the Year of the Dog are known for their loyal, honest personalities. Of course, these valiant hearts can often be emotional, and their lively and courageous spirits make them one of the more stubborn signs. Their lucky numbers are 3, 4, and 9, and they win 'best in show' with their lucky colors red, green, and purple.

Canine Companions

Considered to be one of the first species to be domesticated, dogs have served as companions for humanity for millennia, selectively bread to look and behave as the perfect four-legged friend. Archaeological records show that the first undisputed dog remains buried besides humans dates back almost 14,7000 years (though other, disputed remains have been traced back to over 36,000 years ago). These dates imply that the earliest canine companion accompanied our hunter-gather ancestors, and have stood by our side ever since. To this day, they fulfill many duties besides simple friendship, including hunting, herding, protection, law enforcement, and even therapeutic roles.

Man's Best Friend

Whether your a cat, dog, bird and scale person, it's easy to see how dog's have earned the sobriquet 'man's best friend'. And while we'd like to celebrate canines on the community, I have it on good authority that most of our members are actually primates. How unfortunate for the dog lovers among us. However, the element14 community is for and a celebration of our members, so we'll throw you a bone on this one. To earn this year's badge, comment below with who your 'best friend/s' is on the community. We know it's hard to play favorites, so you don't have to pick one. image

This badge is available now until March 2nd, 2017.

    My Favorite Are:

Everyone who has ever contributed in a meaningful way. Sometimes is just giving an encouraging star rating and other times it writing a lengthy response to a question or comment. Each one of these people have helped me in some way and to each I am thankful and appreciative.

    Favourites? Can I choose everyone?

I don’t think there’s a person on here that I wouldn’t actually be happy to meet in person - whether they agree is a different thing altogether!

If we are giving shout-outs to folks who’ve done that bit extra for me, then I’d have to list a bunch of the top members. I’m not naming names (I’ll only forget someone, but they certainly have been mentioned in above posts).

My best friend is definitely my long suffering wife, who when faced with me buying another thing I may or may not use, continues to support me.

I am also very lucky to be a dog owner (or dog Dad - as I have no kids).

3 terriers are a handful, but I love ‘em.

Any way a nice little badge, I've met some really nice guys here on E14 in fact far to many to mention  and certainly too many to  order into preference order. As a percentage of the total membership it's all very small but 1% of that is a great number and is E14's greatest strength. Two who come to mind are mcb1, shabaz, as well as the very witty Jan Cumps  at the Dellirium Bar !!

I’m amongst those who favour the wider team spirit and everyone here’s a winner approach than singling out just a chosen few, mostly because I’m sure I’d miss someone out and fell bad!

The whole community is like a truly faithful friend - at pretty much any time of day or night, you can come here, seek inspiration or reassurance and find it, and occasionally get a nudge in the right direction when you’re straying off track, what more could a friend do?!
