I am a elctronics student from India. And a  hobbyist. I have some tools. But I don't have a oscilloscope because of it's huge cost. Most of my new circuits are testing by other ways.

I have an exprience while working at the project site.

I was having a project to setup a GSM-GPS based Water pump monitoring setup. I was climed upto a height of 5th floor where I need to do the setup. Suddenly I found that my designed analog water level sensor is not working. Luckily, I had a pico scope withme at such a height. There I fix the issue by seeing the signals on the scope. It actually save me that day. Otherwise I will have to remove it from the top and then return back to miles and then repair it.

This is my third year and also the last year.

I'm doing various project like now i need to measure triangle and Sine waves from generator which makes PWM signal, and i need oscilloscope to measure it, more i in progress with my final work i making older car control system with android app, so i need to know what generator and other things show, for this reason i'd like to have portable oscilloscope, but now in my way for measuring with oscilloscope, i need to go to my university and not every lecturer's giving me the way to measure it i even can't do that then i needed...

I just sharing my struggle with measurements in my - student life/conditions.

Early in my career as an electrical engineer in production I was called upon to figure out why a new product in the field was resetting.  The product consisted of an existing portable computer with an added base to expand its functionality and battery life.  The field engineers had been working on the issue for a while the customer was losing their patience.  For all of you who think that business travel is fun you have never been called out to an angry customer site and, by the time management finally calls upon a factory engineer, this is the case.  They only want the problem resolved now!  The only fine restaurants open at 11 pm usually have golden arches.  My task was to wait at the customer site until a reset was reported then hop in a car to be driven to the site of the unit for analysis.  To only make things worst on the first day of my visit I came down with the flu.  After an agonizing week, I was no further along with a solution, but feeling better.  Examining the units I noticed something interesting around the battery contacts.  I sent a sample to one of our mechanical engineer and what he found was interesting.  In the design of the add-on base, the design engineer was having trouble soldering the nickel plated battery contacts so he changed to tin plated ones.  The portable computer’s mating contacts were intended to mate with the hard nickel contacts.  As a result, under the vibration of the combined product, the soft tin formed tiny balls of tin oxide, a very good insulator that would work their way between the product and the battery causing the resets. This process called “fretting” has found its way into other product as the attempt to reduce production cost in the early 80’s.  We all learned something new that day and sometimes the best tools is a good set of eyes.

I was working on a Baxter dough proofing cabinet in a restaurant....I had the hardest damn time pegging the problem. I was using an old digital multimeter from radioshack and it was not autoranging.... Anyway I narrowed it down to the control board (Baxter 01-1P1255-00003)easy enough but I was dead sure it was a cap problem, so I replaced the capacitor and BAM it worked....the next day I get a call....it's not working again....same bad cap.... Looked for shorts.... None??? Getting power to all rails??? So....bad new cap maybe and they are in a hurry.... luckily I buy a lot more than one of anything when I buy it....(might as well with shipping etc) so I replace the bad cap....I get a call the same day later on and they are busy, I tell them it will take me some time to get there because I'm on another job and they should unplug it (2 hours later I get there)....I. embarrassed and angry at this board.... I So I recheck rails, look for shorts, recheck EVERYTHING, even the power supply and outlet for surges or bad ground....hell if I know at this point... So I go get a lot of stuff from truck and borrow a friend's oscilloscope and I am determined to fix this thing... My reputation depends on it.... I replace the cap (bad again) and STAND THERE IN A BUSY RESTAURANT....WAITING....WATCHING...for a DOUGH PROOFER               ... Looking story short it was a faulty diode that would overheat and voltage would go nuts, but when it cooled off it worked normally. I found it with inverted air in a can and double checked it with scope....       

I find that once word gets out that you can 'fix things' request start to come in quite often. Family members, especially daughters, seem to be the worst. I try to avoid taking my own tools and equipment in vehicles which does man that when I am out and about I rely on whatever is available at the time, often, very little! With my daughter, whilst at uni, and now she's got her own place, I've started to build her a basic tool set, mainly mechanical tools at the moment, although I'm now at the stage of starting to add electrical testing to the selection.

Phase two is to build up a decent basic set of test gear at here place and eventually (hopefully?) teach her the basics of using it. Any contributions to the 'workbench' will be gratefully received!

Last month, I got my Level 1 High Power Rocket Certification from the NAR.  On-site, for both myself and others, checking continuity/current/voltage for payload instruments, altimeters with e-matches for black powder stage charges, and the batteries powering these things was an absolute must-have!  Ended up getting my certification, and some cool video with a raspberry pi camera!

I worked as IT support in a rural area of Switzerland. I always got the weirdest thing. One that comes to mind was installing a special dongle on a milk producer's computer in a small office like room in his cowshed, except as I was almost done, I realised the particular computer had no network access, which meant no internet access, and the hub and router could not be moved due to faulty electric and data network inside the building... of course, I only got warned when I arrived there, and had NOT taken any measuring device of any kind. It was the very early beginning of smartphones, and the measuring device suitcase was big and cumbersome, so.... I had to manage to find a way surrounded by mooing cows and a laughing farmer.

As a Steampunk I am always gallivanting around time and space.

I was once stranded a few years from now on a rather unpleasant planet. It took many of their months for the personal time conveyance repair man to arrive and repair my personal time conveyance backpack.

These wonderously small devices would have been so handy and allowed me to repair my personal time conveyance backpack.

The planet however dreadful is an interesting place to visit but only for couple hours at a time.

The memory of those horrific months will be forever etched in my mind.

I am a bit of a maker in the Steampunk community (starving artist). I utilize 3D printing, lighting and electronics in some of my humble creations.

Yes these would come in handy build things and maintaining my printers.

There are people here that could use them for their jobs. If you choose them I totally understand.

Its a nice idea, but our health and safety wouldn't allow that kind of a set-up. It isn't too bad as the ladders are caged so you can lean against the cage to take the weight of your arms.

The ladders are also about 9M high each with a gantry in-between to have a rest, the picture doesn't show it, but the ladders are offset to one another, so you naturally step off onto the gantry to access the next ladder.
