I have been mad keen about electronics ever since my Dad (who was an electronic engineer for Philips Electrical) bought me a Philips Electronics Engineer kit when I was around 10 years-old. This was an…

I almost never get electronics related gifts (other than from element14). Everyone assumes they couldn't choose something that I don't already have, or that I need, or that I want. (and they are probably…

The best gift I got would be a full set of precision screw drivers from my wife. This allowed me to be able to tinker and make repairs to multiple electronic devices ranging from laptops to smartphones. It may not be a kit or full device but it surely made any electronic device that come my way a potential learning project for me. image

Have a great holiday season everyone!

I have what is known as insatiable curiosity.

As a child I took apart almost everything I got hold of including Christmas gifts.

My father never got mad at me but started to teach me how to put them back together.

I would bring home broken electronics and my father and I would spend time together fixing them.

I had numerous electronics lab sets.

    Meccano, Lego.

I got my computer technician papers.

    I'm a mechanic.

    I learned photography.

I'm now 55 years old and still love learning new things.

Unfortunately my children don't share this trait but we do have things we can share.

My Son and I recently learned 3D printing. My Son is good at 3D modeling, I am good at the physical operation and maintenance of the printers.

I have recently learned to use raspberry pi to control the printers.

If we won this it will be something new to play with.

So to me the best electronics related gift is the time I got to spend with my Father fixing and learning electronics and mechanics.

And the time I get to spend with my kids.

Good luck to all that enter.

"It did teach a lot about programming and about desperation every time this excellent upgrade came unplugged"

I looped some insulated wire around the top half of the card edge connector. When the expansion pack was inserted, the top edge of the wire then latched under the plastic of the case and prevented the expansion pack from working itself loose ever again.

    Nice!

I bought an assembled one in 1981, didn't know that it was sold as kit as well.

On behalf of my 9 year old son, last January he got a meccano max for his birthday.

We also received an American version of a ps4 for the family from my cousins husband when he upgraded and couldn't sell or trade in.

A wonderful box secrets and WTF moments even for me as a late teen ( hell yeah,  I had to wait for someone to invent computers)  but I did learn  solder and burn my fingers on regularly.

I think it took me about  two weeks  to get it together and the keyboard thingy was on skew.

It did teach a lot about programming and about desperation every time this excellent upgrade came unplugged

My best electronic gift i received was a  sound remote control car in my childhood when i was 5 years old that time , its the best because at that age i didn't knew anything about electronics and wondered so much that how can a car move with touching with a clap sound.
