Poll: Why Aren't You Part of the RoadTest Group?

The element14 RoadTest Group is one of the popular groups on the element14 Community. It's even popular with our suppliers. RoadTests give any element14 member the opportunity to receive a product at no charge (taxes excluded) and all you have to do in return is write a review of the product. But not every member of the element14 community is a member of the RoadTest group or has taken advantage of the RoadTest experience. Why aren't you part of the RoadTest group? As a writer for computer magazines I can offer that skill to support this initiative. As a IT security specialist I can offer the knowledge to support this initiative. With a formal background in electronics and a basement build/tinker I can offer that experience to support this initiative. Why am I not in the RoadTest group? I just stumbled across the link for the RoadTest group and thought I would join.

Ramon,

There is no failing a roadtest other than not submitting a review of the product I send you for free. The only time you have to return something (which as only happened two or three times that I'm aware of) is if you could not do the review. But prior to that ever coming up, myself or my assistant danzima will contact you to make sure you can meet the 60-day deadline for a review. I don't see RoadTests as project-building assignments, as my predecessor may have. I see them as product reviews; therefore, the roadtester is sharing his or her opinion. Sometimes that opinion is in the form a a project, sometimes not. That is up to the reviewer. I would encourage you to apply for a roadtest. If you are selected as an official roadtester, we can talk about your concerns.

We ship all over the world. Sometimes it takes a bit longer due to customs and some places we cannot ship to for trade compliance reasons. I'd suggest applying for something that interests you.

I'm an American but for the past 10 years I've been living in Tanzania, East Africa and doubt element 14 would ship road test stuff here so I never applied.
