Are You Ready to Drive Your Design: The Year for Automotive Electronics (41% of Goal)

My new year's resolution for element14 is to focus on bringing everything and anything about automotive electronics to the community. Automotive electronics is seeing so much innovation, change, and new development, I feel we can't let another year pass without talking automotive electronics and learning about them. I'm sure lots of new engineering design jobs are going to be targeting this industry vertical.

Here's what you can do for me. Vote below on the area of automotive electronics that most interests you. In the comments, suggest products you know in the area of automotive electronics that could be roadtested.

The Year for Automotive Electronics is rolling down the road.

I'd like to get 100 members to vote in this poll. thanks

It is tough to select just one, since I am interested in most of these topics. I chose the drowsiness monitor topic since I can think of a design that I might actually use but which nobody else is likely…

I really love the digital dash on the Audi RS3, and think more should go that way I've been very interested as well to see more people using speeduino as a replacement ECU https://speeduino.com/wiki/index…

With the advent of this term "smart cities", pollution monitoring is becoming a more prevalent. However, vehicle counting appears to be the only method used to estimate vehicle pollution. In my view this fails to take into account car idle time and driver acceleration/deceleration driver behaviour. Hence a simple vehicle (probably) OBD-based (non gps-tracking) device is needed.

Another problem that needs solving is a way to get the road speed limit information as you are driving. Always an issue for me anyway, when driving on unfamiliar roads. Once again, I would prefer this not to be gps (tracking) linked.

Batteries need some affection from their owners.  Idiot lights these days do not tell us much.  Struggling to start the car because of the battery overall ability to keep performing may lead to dead battery somewhere you do not choose to be.  This sounds like, eh who cares, but I would like to see a little more information.

    I would have voted for:

Basic: Protection circuits to make your delicate electronic circuit survive in the noisy automotive power environment

I call it basic because almost every circuit in the car would need it.

Perhaps these tourists could have benefitted from some form of a heads-up display with aquatic wildlife recognition plus augmented information system ?

Also, I'm interested in components for Automotive designs like LED drivers and the sorts of.

I have been following V2I,V2V, V2X since 2011 when there were just some research papers, standard drafts, and isolated simulations... Now that the technology is ready I would like to know who will drive the adoption of this... Manufacturers, Authorities, Users, ...? How will this be integrated within the smart cities and IoT scenario? What will be the role of the open software/hardware community?
