Please help me in buying an Arduino starter kit

Former Member
Former Member over 12 years ago

I am new to Arduino, and I am looking for Arduino starter kit. I found this starter kit via google shopping.

http://www.sainsmart.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/500x500/b97a0c6c1d16e76f7464abfcbb6a0a8d/0/1/01_13.jpg

And found some from google search, like this. And also some from adafruit.

https://dlnmh9ip6v2uc.cloudfront.net//images/products/1/1/2/2/6/11226-03c.jpg

I just want one with good project details which is clear enough for a beginner like me. I must admit I'm on a budget-giving 79 euro for everthing. Hard to decide which one to buy.

mcb1 I have also purchased from Terry King: http://yourduino.com/sunshop2/index.php?l=product_list&c=6 His kits are great for middle school maker spaces as he sells the components in a parts organizer…

That is all very nice. Here's an idea. Spend some time in their support forums and report your findings in your next post. It should give you a better idea who will be the most and best help to you and…

Blackmon The bottom one is missing a lot. The top one is at a great price and will serve you as a starter. I would be tempted to add an I2C LCD display (16x2) http://www.sainsmart.com/arduino-compatibles…

    Blackmon

The kit inc 1602LCD is not I2C.

I 'd go with the first kit and add the I2C display as its very close to the same price, but with a much easier to use display.

Some prices are very cheap with the 1602 display at around $3-4 and the I2C at $10-12.

The problem is support, backup which is usually non existant.

As much as i'd love to say use E14, they don't have a decent cheap kit to compare with these.

I've used Terry King at www.yourduino.com and can recommend him, as he has a chinese partner and gets good prices direct for reputable suppliers.

I am using the starter kit from oddwires.com

This kit includes a ton of stuff in the box and everything you need to start programming and creating all kinds of crazy devices.  I highly recommend buying this kit if you want to jump right in

There is a distance sensor right in the center, and you could add a PIR to this mix for a few $$$ from ebay or other suppliers

Looks like an awesome place to start

His kits are great for middle school maker spaces as he sells the components in a parts organizer.  Can't beat having a case that uses individual bin organizers.  It makes parts distribution easy.  No chaos in the classroom!

All the components needed to build several projects are all together, stay organized and can be distributed to individual teams from class to class.  In my opinion, the price can't be beat.  My students didn't have any problems with the quality of the components.

Highly recommended.  BTW:  Terry King was also very responsive to my email inquiries.

    Couldn't agree more.

I have been using these lately in our classroom kits.

    https://www.itead.cc/catalogsearch/result/?cat=&q=brick

I added a I2C display from Terry as their LCD covered all the pins.

The advantage of the 'brick' style is that you don't have to worry about wiring issues.

Several others have similar products, but unfortunately the price is way more.

It is a shame element14 don't have something similar (both price and flexibility).
