What are some current uses in Wearable Tech?

DAB,

 

I certainly don't find you antisocial here LOL.  I do think the U.S. show "Big Bang Theory" is creating a geek love out there.  I was thinking that superhero t-shirts definitely count as geek attire, at least with the younger ones.

    I am curious on your input about wearable baby monitors.  I am constantly worrying that my newborn isn't breathing when she sleeps and thought there must be some innovation in wearable technology for babies to help solve my constant worrying. I was right - there are quite a few out there to chose from - I was curious if you have any thoughts on current wearable baby monitors on the market?  Here's a few I found: Mimo, Sproutling, and the Owlet.   Thanks!!

    Thanks for sharing some examples of these monitors.  I can tell you that I like the first two better than the last one.  I know babies love to kick off shoes and I can't imagine any baby being okay with the last example, as it looks like a cast image.  One of the things I'm curious about with any monitor that is wireless is radiation.  Children are even more susceptible, so in weighing out the options I would look for devices that are further from body organs.  We are surrounded by this tech issue on a daily basis, so it is something we should all keep in mind.

    Did I mention I'm a birder?  That's hilarious about the CD's, and I know cherries on my parent's tree never lasted long, either.

    Hi Nicole,

     

    Congratulations on your newborn.

    I have not seen any wearable tech for babies, but I have seen some ads for some, so I know they exist.

    Check with Consumer Reports, I am sure they have compared the ones available and can guide you to the best ones available.

    My wife and I watch birds as well.

    During the winter we have a hawk, not sure what type, but it comes over to observe our bird feeder and takes an occasional snack.

    I get a good crop of cherries about one every five years and there is nothing better than a fresh baked cherry pie or frozen jam.

    I was a little disappointed that the CDs did not work, but they looked kind of cool just hanging in the tree, so I just left them up.  I made a bunch of geometric patterns out of them and the sun reflections produced rainbows all over the house and yard.

    Plus it was a good way to use up old CDs.

    Birds are often attracted to bright, shiny objects so you probably only made it worse :-)

     

    The most creative use of old CDs I've seen is an "art car" with thousands of old CDs glued onto it.  They look like overlapping scales and the car looks like a strange, gigantic fish.

    Snacking what? From the birds or from the feeder image?
