What Projects Would You Like to Do Around Arduino Days: March 21-23?

tariq.ahmad
tariq.ahmad over 1 year ago

i know its been a little backed up here and we haven't launched a contest since the holidays.    Arduino Days this year is on March 21-23 and we'd like to do something around Arduino for our next contest.   Arduino Day or Arduino Days is an event that centers around the "birthday" of Arduino.   Its also the "birthday" of Project14 which launched on April 14th, 2017.   As tradition would dictate we celebrate these two events together.

Most likely we'll have an open ended Arduino contest but I wanted to check in with the members to see what ideas or projects you are interested in working on to celebrate Arduino this year?

Happy Arduino Days! We will do a theme around "Time and Space" using an Arduino board. It will be launched on April 14th, on the 7th Anniversary of Project14. :-).

Make 1 measurement per day with an Arduino, post it to the internet, and use as little power as possible use any arduino use any mechanism to get the info on the internet (wired, radio, ...) measurement…

Similarish theme, could be anything to do with time and space. There was for instance a element14 presents video related to astronomy recently (I'm on mobile, so don't have the link as easily to hand)…

Make 1 measurement per day with an Arduino, post it to the internet, and use as little power as possible

    • use any arduino
    • use any mechanism to get the info on the internet (wired, radio, ...)
    • measurement with any sensor
    • use any internet mechanism that can be viewed by others. Could be cloud, your own server, ...
    • use any supply
    • non-green power consumed by the arduino has to be counted as part of your energy budget.
If you manage to use power that's not coming from your outlet, or from a battery (or some generator powered by fossil - or a Mr. Fusion), you don't have to count it.
    • power used by networking devices (say: your internet router, switch, ...) does not have to be counted. Except if you use PoE to power the arduino
    • timing of the measurement not critical
    • must run unattended
    • average over 7 days

How about a "Make something unusual" contest, look for the most creative use of an Arduino.

I like "any Arduino project" since it should get the widest participation, although personally I would like to see an "Arduino based instrument" theme at some point, which still provides lots of scope.

I like Arduino project pitches. Throwing a caveat in the rules adds to the challenge.

    Sounds good.

I recently found a source of 'unusual stuff' going on at the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) & Interactive Media Arts (IMA) programs at NYU. There are some videos of it being demonstrated here:

Bonus points if it's small enough that you manage to camouflage this into a public (but legal) area and let it run unnoticed by others for seven days. Buried Ethernet cable, fiber-optic, radio could be options : )

To celebrate Arduino's longevity, maybe a contest about old vs. new or using the oldest Arduino you can find to make somethingt.

Similarish theme, could be anything to do with time and space. There was for instance a element14 presents video related to astronomy recently (I'm on mobile, so don't have the link as easily to hand) but there's plenty of scope to extend, e.g. could be an astronomical clock of some sort, or a timer of some sort, or capture the sounds of space via radio, or gravity measuring with Arduino (e.g. height and fall time calculation) or a GPS clock.

For the FX oriented, sci-fi sounds : )

Needless to say, bonus points if the Arduino goes subatomic.

Perhaps keep it simple and just use the theme of 'birthday' ?

That gives quite a few options, party, cake, lights, candles, music, novelties, entertainment, celebration, presents, gift cards, messages, video/photo, games, age, traditions, and so on.
