Microcontroller with SD

Former Member
Former Member over 12 years ago

Hi

I recentrly had a lot of problems with SD card adapters not working with different microcontrollers. I am trying to build custom keyboard that will also store some data on SD card.

I am looking for microcontroller that will have build in SD card and could work as USB device (HID).

Does anybody know of such a board?

I was looking for one and they usually have one or other but no both on one board.

I generally dislike using keyboards that store what I type.

Can I ask what sort of application you have in mind?

It is actually opposite I want to store some key combinations in TXT file and I want to oput put those combinations base on buttons pressed. I am not building any data logger.

    Any board comes into mind?

    OK, sorry for any implications.

There is a similar recent thread here:

    Hi,

I would recommend to use the SPI mode of the SD cards since almost every uC have a SPI interface.

    Regards

Well, this is exactly what I was trying to do and I have a lot of problems with it. Teensy USB 3.0 could not work with SD card at all and Arduino Micro has some strange connection problems that I can't solve right now, that is why I was looking for something that would have build in SD card adapter into microcontroller board.

Do you know of any ?

    Hi Gerard,

The Arduino Yún has a USB connector and software is freely available to emulate a HID.

It also has built-in micro SD card slot.

go for STM32F4, i never had problems with fatfs while running sdcard in SDIO mode (4b)
and it has USB too, and very powerful processor as well with 1MB flash

No I don't know of any, but maybe I can help you if you would describe your problem.

Thank you all for responding to my post.

Arduino Yun is an overkill for my project but it is definitely a good example.

My main problem is that for some reason Arduino Micro SPI connection is very unstable. Sometimes is is initializing SD card with no problem and sometimes it will not. I think it might be connection problem so that is why I was looking for microcontroller with build in SD card adapter.
