Help Us Build Dreamboard 2.0!

nlarson
nlarson over 10 years ago

Since DreamBoard launched, we've seen almost 3,000 DreamBoards created right from your imagination!  Most recently, you voted and told us which DreamBoard should be crowned the champion of all DreamBoards. The fun isn't going to end here!  We're just getting started - and now we want to help you create an even better DreamBoard!

We want your feedback on how we can improve upon "Build Your Own DreamBoard".  Are there features or components that you'd like to see that aren't currently available in the current version?  Some of the feedback we've already seen for improvements for DreamBoard 2.0 include:

    -  "some board specs would be good, ie. how large is large? LxWxH?"

    - "it would be cool to see a rough estimate of the price of various component."

    - "After I create my DreamBoard, can you recommend real-life products closely related to my DreamBoard that I can buy right now?"

Are there add-ons or components missing from the selectors?  Let us know!

What are some other ways we can improve the DreamBoard when we release version 2.0?  Let us know below by posting a reply to this discussion!

One feature I would want is the ability to move the position of everything on the board so it could be arranged the way I want it to

All I would like to see is a 32-bit and 64-bit 8-core cpu.

These Are some suggestion which i would like to share.
    1) Providing Actual Dimensions of LxHxW in mm.

    2) Using Actual IC's name instead of Generic name(ie Using ATSAMXXXX instead of ARM) same for ADC, DAC, CAN, etc
    3) Setting Parameters e.g resolution of ADC at expense of Cost of dreamboard.

    4) Design some Fancy case for the Dream Board.
    5) Adding Some Real Components, connectors, etc from list of components available in Element14.
    6) And Finally Supporting for Kick-starter event so that the winner has the chance to manufacture the dreamboard

    Thankz..

I almost forgot that I would also like the ability to edit the dreamboard after you save it.

No dream board fantasies accepted unless backed up by a working prototype !

Not 100% serious but to me the whole exercise is a bit futile - none of these things have been built and the "design software" doesn't take into account any real design constraints.

To me Lucy Rodgers' simple little boards are much more interesting because they are real and actually work, meaning that real design issues get resolved and discussed.

add a adjustable board not fixed size for dream boards ,as all builder's know the dream boards don't have a spec size. more part add ons like the keyboard and other parts.

    list of parts

    keyboard add-on

    other processor's "vintage processor"

    more video ports

memory add-on able to use more memory

I agree with the actual dimensions of the board.  Additionally I would like an option for PoE, allowing my hacks to be smaller rather than needing power over over micro-usb and an ehternet port.
