“Pulse Load Capability of Precision Chip Resistors” by Joseph Szwarc assesses the pulse load capability (PLC) of precision foil and thin film chip resistors. While their performance is similar for pulse durations down to 1 ms, VFR resistors fare better than thin film chips for shorter pulses thanks to the bulk metal properties of their resistive material, which results in high stability and high thermal capacity.
