Vishay Foil Resistors are pleased to announce a new addition to our library of Applications At a Glance technical articles:
“How Precision Resistors Enable Quick, Easy, and Cost-Effective Shunt Calibration of Strain Gage Sensors.”
Strain gages function as the building blocks of many other types of transducers—including pressure, load, and torque sensors—but acquiring reliable data from them can be a challenge. Several factors can affect the measurement performance of a strain gage: the signal conditioning, the construction and location of the Wheatstone bridge (typically used to measure resistance, inductance, and capacitance), the precision resistors used in the circuit, and the excitation source. Precision resistors have two basic uses in standard strain gage circuits: shunt calibration—a very convenient method of periodically monitoring the gain or span of a signal conditioner being used in conjunction with a strain gage based transducer of strain-measuring instruments—and bridge completion. What’s the best resistor for the task? You can find out here: http://www.vishaypg.com/doc?49677.
