Dear Vishay Foil Resistors Customers:
I’m pleased to announce a new addition to our library of Facts At a Glance technical articles: “When Small Isn’t Better in Precision Resistor Applications.”
The drive towards smaller and smaller devices demands smaller and smaller precision resistors handling greater and greater power densities. Usually this means that surface-mount chip resistors should be used whenever possible. Or does it? SMT technology is not without its trade-offs. Excess heat, board flex stress, and microphonic noise are just a few of the typical downsides of using surface-mount components in precision applications. More often than not, the best choice is a through-hole precision resistor.
