Some changes to RoadTest

awinning
awinning over 15 years ago

Hi,

Tonight element14 will be upgraded to a newer version of the platform we use. This change gives us the the chance to improve the way we organise RoadTest. I was at a presentation of the new features last night, so I thought I'd pass them on.

The current change is to do with entry to RoadTests. Now we have events, which confuse people as they think that it is a physical event. This was the only way I could figure out how to manage tests when I started the group. From tomorrow, there will be a RoadTest tab next to discussions, documents and events. In that tab there is a drop down menu which will let you navigate to the particular test you are applying for. There you will find a button which lets you apply for the test. You will have to complete a form..name, address etc, which then you can then save to your profile (as private) so the next time the form will be filled in automatically.

I think that's the basics of it. The first test using the new system will be tomorrow with the ADI RF kit. Do me a favour and try give it a go and let me know what you think here? I think the first time you apply will take a little longer, but after that it should be just as easy as now.

The benefits this change will bring are that I don't need to send a pm to each winner for addresses and then copy and paste into a spreadsheet manually (you can imagine how "fun" that was for me when I had to do 50 for one test, and how excited I was when one Product Manager here offered me 200 dev kits image). After the draw I can go onto the entry page, which looks like it does now, and tick the testers. Anyone can see that page and the testers automatically. The entries will be in a form, which means I don't have to wait 2 - 3 weeks to get addresses from testers, and you get the kits much quicker image.

Same problem with the gap while logged in.

true, I just noticed, it (the gap in groups problem)  only happens when I'm logged in. It's fine when I'm logged out.

Gap issue is caused by a "top: 126px" inline CSS setting on the pf-groups-menu div. Some browsers allow you to override the CSS, quick fix is to set top to 0 for people who have such feature in their browsers.

I'm seeing the gap issue as well (SeaMonkey 2.0.8) even when not logged in, but it is much more visible when logged in.

Basically, one can work around it when not logged in by quickly moving the mouse pointer down so that it never goes in the "small" gap.

The new format of emails seems much more verbose because of HTML format. I could not find a way to go back to text only mode.

Apart from that, it looks good.

    Cheers

    Olivier

Thanks for all the comments (and suggested fixes!) everyone. Our dev team is looking into the issues you've reported. And yes, Firat, we DO think good things about you. image

    Thanks,

Can any of you guys who are seeing this "gap" issue post a screen shot? We've tested here with FF, IE 6,7,8, Chrome and Safari and aren't seeing it - noting what your screen resolution and OS is will also help.

Also, I'll see if I can post some instructions to switch back to text format if you don't like the html emails.

    Thanks!

Here is a screen shot (note: I already posted one in this thread).

My screen resolution is 1920 x 1080, and this is IE8 on Windows 7, however it also happens in Safari on Mac OS X at 1680x1050

    Hi all,

I was succesful in navigating to the enrol in roadtest screen for the RF IF eval kit and filled in all of the required fields, submitted it and received an "Unexpected Error" message. There must be a way of applying because I can see others on the list.

    Any suggestions?

I would like to go for this kit as RF is my specialty area.

    Thanks for the bandwidth,

    Nic

Hi Inigo, yes we want to only allow one enrollment. For now I will delete your duplicate. If you open up your existing enrollment do you not see a delete option to remove your own enrollment? If not, we'll get an option in so you can "unenroll" if you need to.

    Thanks,
    Christy
