Perhaps something like this:
Pandaboard ES or Fresscale i.MX53 kit http://th.element14.com/freescale-semiconductor/mcimx53-lvds/kit-mcimx53-lvds-bundle/dp/2079839
Cymbet Energy Harvesting Kit - http://th.element14.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=2061535&COM=main-search
i'd love to test somthing like this, http://www.newark.com/gw-instek/gsp-830/spectrum-analyser-3ghz/dp/01P3528 with the tracking generator option, this would be usefull with the radio repair and filter design i do.
I'd like to see more products that aren't kits that are going to need a huge amount of programming to interface with something.
Some simple stuff like meters, tools, cables, batteries or connectors etc... The sort of thing we all use every day. (there are a few of these, but not many)
BUT you need to ship 2 products. One "standard" and one "pro". (Or "bargain" and "standard")
I have a single snap-on screwdriver (god knows where it came from) and it is actually a lot better than typical cheap screwdrivers. You know the ones where when you put a handful of torque on it, the tip bends & the silver plating flakes and the flanges break off. I've destroyed bigger bits of screwdriver metal, then gone back to the smaller snap-on and it does the job without any drama.
Then again, I've bought other "pro" range kit (which I can't think of any specific example now) and it's been so little better than the cheap stuff that you really think "why not just buy 3 cheap ones and throw them away when they break".
That's the sort of thing I'd like to know about.
I'd like to see a useful comparison between the "every day" range and the "pro" range (or "cheap" and "every day"). Why is it that product X is more expensive than product Y. Is it worth the difference?
Rather than start a new thread, I thought I would add this here:
The Digilent / Analog Devices Analog-Discovery "A Complete Analog Design Kit for the Price of a Textbook"
Analog Inputs
http://www.digilentinc.com/Products/Detail.cfm?NavPath=2,842,1018&Prod=ANALOG-DISCOVERY
The official price is US$199 retail, US$99 for US students. It looks a great little device, with 2 channel oscilloscope, waveform generator and logic analyser.
^ Hmmm... Nice package - everything you need is at one place.
And... it's pretty inexpensive.
What do you think about test one of this? http://www.ti.com/tool/msp-sa430-sub1ghz?DCMP=sa430&HQS=sa430-b
