I'm happy to test the mechanical stuff, drills, grinders, dremmels, pipe benders etc.

I think it would be great if there were some FPGA boards...
Here's a couple of upcoming boards for Raspberry Pi and BeagleBone:
ValentFx LOGi-Bone (and rest of LOGi family)
They've been prototyped but IFAIK not yet available for sale. Road Test might be a good way for element14 to help decide if they'd like to distribute these boards.
I'd like to test a really nice bench power supply with mutiple outputs and constant current/voltage capabilities.
Nicole, I am keen to evaluate "internet of things" training/development kits like Cooking Hack's e-Health Sensor Platform, which is based on Arduino and Raspberry Pi. The Libellium Waspmote Starterkit is another example, which can help you get to grips with IOT principles. In the next few years huge growth is expected in this field, so now is the time to get prepared for it.
I'd definitly be keen to test a 1 to 2 channel volt data logger
say a sample 10x per second for say 24 hrs
0 to say 35 volt ?

I would love to see the Mendel i3 3D printer kits on the road test.
