Poll: Why Haven't You Applied for this Roadtest: STM32H7B3I-DK -  DISCOVERY KIT

Summertime is one of those busy times of year where people spend quality time with family, friends, and significant others. But this year you may be spending your summer time closer to home. And what better way to spend your quality time than with an element14 roadtest!

 

Inn particular, this roadtest: STM32H7B3I-DK -  DISCOVERY KIT

 

There are so many good things I could say about this dev board (with display). But the thing that stands out for me is what you can do with this board given all the peripherals you can experiment with:  the board help to evaluate the following peripherals: USB HS OTG, microSDTm card, 8-bit camera interface, audio DAC stereo with audio jack input and output, 128-Mbit SDRAM memory, 512-Mbit Octo-SPI Flash memory, Wi‑FiRegistered module (802.11 b/g/n compliant), I2C extension connector, FD-CAN, 20-pin microphone MEMS connector with DFSDM interface, 4.3-inch TFT-LCD (480*272) using an RGB interface with a capacitive touch panel.

 

You can even take advantage of three graphical stacks running on the same board with many featured applications:

– Menu launcher

– Audio player TGFX application (MP3 support)

– Clock and Weather with Alarm feature

– Video player TGFX application (enabled)

– TGFX Graphic demonstration

– STemWin Graphic demonstration

– EWZ Graphic demonstration

 

Poll Question: What's holding you back from applying to this roadtest?

  • I should admit that this device is very interesting and I have also a couple of projects in mind that can fit very well for a road test. I always try to wait the last minute before enrolling to a road test to be reasonably sure that I have time and resources to complete the road test in the deadlines, else I avoid creating problems.

  • I have got enough STM32 board.

    It is better others make a try.

    Stlink v3 is new, but fully compatible with v2.

    Stm32Hxxx is totally upgrade Stm32Fxxx with much cheaper price. It is best fit for almost all application.

    And easy to use, work with CMSIS , it is same as NXP. Of course, stm-Hal lib is fine, but one can have enough choice.

     

    I have planned to order one STM32Hxxx, To share my How-to RoadTests after I finished my design later.

     

    In fact, it is strongly recommended to RoadTests , and to use in production.

  • The following is taken from the section in the ST data brief on product marking:

     

    Evaluation tools marked as “ES” or “E” are not yet qualified and therefore not ready to be used as reference design or in production. Any consequences deriving from such usage will not be at ST charge. In no event, ST will be liable for any customer usage of these engineering sample tools as reference designs or in production.

     

    It isn't entirely clear to me what isn't qualified but my experience is that processors with these reservations are subject to change.  And the debugger / programmer is marked STLINK-V3E.  I try to stick with development kits that are stable and in production.  It is also overkill for most of my projects.  Having said that, I have it on my list to investigate the ST processors at some point.

  • This is a high end and very capable microcontroller kit. I am working on several projects that need a microcontroller, but this beast is way overkill for my projects. For modules like this I would mainly be interested in using them in a suitable application - just putting them through some performance tests is not really my thing. Developing something that needs an MCU of this caliber is almost by definition going to be a complex project that takes significant time. The projects I am working on are quite involved and risky so I don't have a huge amount of time left over to commit to another big project. I will follow what the road testers do though - this module has lots of potential.
