RoadTest Poll: Why Didn't You Apply to the RX23W BLE 5.0 Module Target Development Board

I got 11 applicants for this roadtest: RX23W BLE 5.0 Module Target Development Board

I had hoped to get more interest. I see we had a lot of page views, but not many applicants.

I'm curious if we are doing something wrong? So, in the spirit of improvement, could you vote on why you didn't apply.

Thanks.

What's interesting in learning the Renesas chain: it's used a lot in automotive industry. The road test is a unique chance to master a skill that's desired by employers.

First off, I want to really thank everyone who responded. Your comments are very helpful. All your thoughts are very understandable. Especially if you are in school and finishing your thesis or just busy…

Other: I have road-tested another kit of that controller family, and the Renesas tool chain, recently. It would be mostly overlap.

I am not a big fan of using too many development tools/systems.  I usually find a processor that has the key peripherals that I need and a compiler/development system that is reliable and stick with that combination.  I like to build up a series of functions/features that work well and then reuse them as much as possible.  I am not a big fan of starting from scratch if I don't need to.

I have a lot going on at the moment and didn’t think I could do a RoadTest in a timely manner.  I also have a Raspberry Pi Pico that I haven’t had time to get to and unfinished personal projects.  Just couldn’t take an unfamiliar microcontroller on at the time.

Based on the ultra small (6.1 mm x 9.5 mm) LGA package, I could not see this as a general purpose SiP - it has 83 pins within a 58mm2 area. Imagine trying to reflow that by hand.

Seems to me that this is suitable for wearables and applications like lighting (mesh capabilities). As such, I have no real desire to learn yet another IDE (even if e2 is eclipse based) and their associated SDK's especially as I've no specific application in mind... I need a problem to solve to make learning easier.

Michal, the RX family also supports the GCC toolchain, integrated with the IDE.

In fact, I was more interested in RoadTesting Renesas RX72N Envision Kit  but at the time when it was offered, I was finishing Bachelor thesis and I had no time to do any time extensive RoadTest. which this kind of board requires In this RX23W kit I am interested less because it has older core, less peripherals and also do not have any interesting peripheral on board. So it would be just review about MCU and BLE capabilities. In comparison to this board RX72N offers much more like display, microphones and speaker, support for ethernet, wifi and BLE (WiFi and BLE is provided by onboard ESP32), SD card slot and serial flash, so I was more interested in RX72N kit instead of this kit. Both boards are also affected by need of commercial compiler which was discussed in discussion of RX72N RoadTest page and may distract some members from applying.

I voted other, but I'm busy at work right now and I have no immediate use of the product also apply.

Main reason is that I am interested in roadtesting other currently offered product.

Thanks Jan. Very helpful. And yes, it looks like we have roadtest from similar product families.
