External memory Flash SPI

Hello,

 

We've worked with an Atmel Flash Memory but we met some problem to Write and Read data ( explained in the post : Read / Write on Atmel Flash in Embedded Design). And even when we do a read Manufacturer and Devide ID, it didn't answer the good information.

 

Does anyone has already used a SPI memory ? Which kind of memory, easy to use, would you recommend ? Which memory is the most used ?

    hallo

    is there any way to run code from an external SD card in AVR or PIC MCUs?

    Like for example i can call a routine/function from a SD card?

    Not in a simple way - you would need to copy the code from the SD card to FLASH  and then run it from there.

    Depending on what you want to do it may not be too slow to be useful - for example - if you need to load in a small patch code it may be viable.

    The 8 bit AVRs and PICs are not ideal for your purpose because they only want to run code from the code space which is different from the memory space to which RAM is mapped.

    If it's just a case of needing more code space then consider using a bigger AVR.

    If you want to run code from SD card in a big way it's time to think about using  a different micro  - go for an ARM Cortex core and pick a chip with a proper SD card interface.
