I like ice skating. And you know what? I’ve been looking for a small and easy to use user interface that can replace a mouse function and make me scroll through large amounts of data as smooth as if I were on my skates.
Well you might say: How about a touchscreen? Good point! To use the picture from before: Touchscreens play in a different league – let’s say they are the NHL. But as we all know, it is pretty expensive to buy a NHL-Team and quite pricey in the long run to keep it going (Yes, I’m talking about battery power).
Then again there is the push-button navigation key. It is pretty much like having skates on your feet but instead of skating, you jump forward leap by leap. Let’s face it: It is hard work, takes a lot of time and looks pretty awkward.
Optical solutions are used quite common too, but to me they are like skating for the first time – and that for the rest of your life. You skate through your data – let’s say your contacts or your playlists – but since the ice is slippery and you don’t know what you’re doing you go too far, struggle to get back on track and then you skate back again. And that is also quite time (and battery power) consuming and frustrating.
Now I have come across a miniature joystick called EasyPoint. It’s pretty much like an analog stick you might know from the portable playstation – with all the good features and some more. Scrolling through my data is fun again and I tell you: Skating is the new way to go!
Have a look at http://blog.easypoint.com and see why.
