How to Drive LEDs -- DC to Daylight 07

In this theory-based episode, we’re going to take a look at what makes LEDs tick and how to drive them properly making sure they operate long-term, avoiding premature failure. We’ll also explore the right and wrong way to drive multiple LEDs in series and parallel, including how to drive a string of LEDs in series using a transistor.

    Maybe you could see if there is interest in your stuff at a flea market. The Jefferson Davis Flea Market costs about $35 a day for vendors.

  • Derek, I am a retired engineer who started working on electronics (think tubes) back in the late 60's.  I learned a lot from my day and kept learning as best as I could with the advent of transistors, IC's and I cannibalized junked TV's, stereos and whatever I could find to experiment and learn with.  I got pretty good in troubleshooting and repairing stuff, even the RF circuits in CB's when they were so popular.  Now, I just fix what I can as most electronic things are designed not to be discreetly repaired except to replace an entire board.  The circuitry is just too dang small!  Over the years, I have accumulated a whole lot of stuff, individual components, test equipment both homemade or purchased that I now have little use of.  I have donated a lot of stuff to the local high school technology departments, but they are now only interested in robotics and programming and typically utilize kits to work with.  I wish I could find a younger person that may be interested in inheriting most (eventually all) of my stuff but I have not been successful.  I even knocked on the Amateur Radio people but they don't build much anymore.  Yes, I know that I am a dinosaur and will hate to have to discard my stuff if and when that time comes.  However, in watching your presentations as well as some others, I notice that you use discrete components which I have a boatload of and also, young people are presenting their take on electronic experiments...very refreshing!  So, if you have any suggestions for me, I would appreciate your comments.  BTW, I live in Richmond, Virginia.  Take care, John.
