Having constructed a complete scale-model structure/carcass, I have started to analyse the main elements that have to be taken into consideration when building a full-size modular vertical farm and produced a schematic sketch identifying six areas: Construction – vertical farm component parts; Mechanical – fixed and moving parts; Power – all utilities; Control – Raspberry Pi, sensors, switches, etc; Science – understanding growing techniques; Environment – what is necessary to achieve climate control.

This led me onto collating information on sensors and data collection, and making notes on which are the most important areas to monitor and control and what I need to include in the modular vertical farm.
