The autonomous pest management will take care of the elimination of flora and fauna pests in limited or confined cultivation.
- The system consists of a Rpi 4 which acts as the brain.
- A Rpi cam connected to the Rpi4 will detect the presence of any pests via OpenCV and machine learning models.
- The PIM486 Enviro HAT will additionally detect any change in the ambient temperature, humidity, pressure, etc which can lead to plant decay.
- The PIM487 Automation HAT will control a set of servo motors fitted with a high-intensity laser diode.
- The Rpi4, with the help of a custom target detection algorithm (offset estimation), will point the servo assembly fitted with the laser diode to the pest/decay area of the cultivation.
- A high-intensity laser beam will be projected onto the target area which will essentially eliminate the pest/decay infection.
- Remote monitoring and manual control support using a node-red server.
- Daily cultivation data report uploaded to the cloud server for remote analysis using MQTT.
The whole assembly consists of the following parts:
- Raspberry Pi 4
- Raspberry Pi cam / USB cam
- PIM486 Enviro HAT
- PIM487 Automation HAT
- PICO HAT Hacker PCB
- Servo assembly for pan and tilt
- High-intensity laser diode
- Laser diode driver
- Battery or external power supply
Extra parts other than included in the challenger kit are as follows:

This will be well inside the size of 1m³ constraint as all of the components used in the project are of small size.
We estimate a size close to 0.0034 m³ which means we still have a lot of room left in case we need to include more such systems.
The system will be controlled via python scripts.
Adherence to Project requirements and advantages
- The system is well within the size constraint of 1m³.
- The compact nature of the system allows having multiple of these systems installed at various locations in and around the cultivation area for maximum benefit.
- The advantage of our system is to produce vegetation in a lesser footprint without worrying about pests and plant decay.
