Space Vegetables - #26 | biweekly update

Hello all.

Hope everyone is safe and sound.

Here's another update from the Space Vegetables project.

Vegetables are growing well, especially the salads. Any day now and I'm able to harvest some to try. Tomatoes and Bell peppers are still small... I'm hopping the sunny and warm days will improve and give a boost to their growth . Probably by the end of March will move the kit to outside and spare the electricity bill on the LEDs.

I'm worrying that the bottom layer of the kit is not doing well. It gets the same amount of light and water, but is doing worse. I just hope the vegetables can still hang a bit more.

Here's a time lapse, from the very first day until today.

Nice update. I think you might be seeing a dilution of the nutrient flow from the top plants to the bottom. From what I observed, you have the holders in series, which provides more nutrients to the first…

Love the time-lapse sequence. Often thought of trying to do one on some plants, but never got around to it. Neil

This is my first try, but already learned a lot. In all the sites that I've read about hydroponics and the kind of different kits available (almost all are single layer), not ever did I read something…

    Nice update.

I think you might be seeing a dilution of the nutrient flow from the top plants to the bottom.

From what I observed, you have the holders in series, which provides more nutrients to the first plants and less to the ones on the bottom row.

With that sort of arrangement, you would want to put your heavy feeders early in the chain so they can get their maximum amount.

    Hi  DAB.

Now that you mention it, you might be right. I've always assumed it was because of lighting (probably), but your comment might be spot on. Will try to move them around next weekend and will post about it.

    Thank you

Following DAB advice, I've moved all the plants that seemed to need more nutrients to the top layer and left the ones that are already growing and probably need less nutrients on the layer below.

We will wait and see the following weeks.  Finally the weather is starting to be more happy and will move the project to outside by the end of the month !
