BTU - Project LOKI.04 - Assembly time

Time to take the basic parts and start putting it all together to see how well the new Raspberry Pi 3b+ performs:

First and most important let's open up that package with the Raspberry Pi 3b+!

!image

As you can see this is a Rare New Zealand edition shared by M. Beckett

Little different packaging.  Kind of like the brown bag options from before.

Interesting, no reusing that box!  No static bag either.  But the Raspberry Pi 3b+ looks good!

Okay, here are is my basic setup to begin building our Project Loki.

Pi, Power, 16 gig card, mouse, keyboard, monitor, usb hub and a usb cable.

Let's begin!

Now while normally you can get an ARM version of Kali from Offensive Security.com I have done that and am now interested in a modified version put out by Re4son:

https://whitedome.com.au/re4son/kali-pi/

He has put together an interesting collection of tools while providing an interface that looks very promising for portable bluetooth security!

From his website:

Latest Kali Linux on Raspberry Pi with Touch Screen, Bluetooth and touch optimised interface(New: Bluetooth, Rogue AP, Remote access AP, more tools)

Yes very interesting!

Who wouldn't be interested in this:  "Sticky Fingers Kali-Pi – The pocket size, finger friendly, lean mean hacking machine."

First listed option, Option 1.  Quick install using pre-configured  image

This takes us to yet another option.  "You can follow this guide to download a pre-configured disk image and to configure it for your specific touch screen model in only a few short steps."

For the start of this project I want to try out his short and sweet options before going into manual/custom options.  So let's follow that guide.

https://whitedome.com.au/re4son/sticky-fingers-kali-pi-pre-installed-image/

Uhoh, looking down through the page and I see their recommended SD card size:

  • 8GB for Kali-Pi MSF – basic Kali MSF package (this image)
  • 16GB for Kali-Pi Full –  install kali-linux-full and OpenVAS (very tight)
  • 32GB  for Kali-Pi Complete – Install the above plus Snort and other goodies

Now normally 8 gig is fine for Kali but to be sure I went with a 16 gig option.  Now though it looks like I need at least a 32 gig card!

So slight delay while tomorrow I go out and get a new card!  ..............................................................................

...............................................................................

image

Tada!  New 32 gig card ready to roll!

So back to our project!

Sticky Fingers Kali Download:

7th June, 2018  <<<  That is cool a relatively new version is out!

Version2018.2B

So let's click on that start our download.

image

Hmm, haven't seen this before.  And with 2.2g it will take awhile for me to get it downloaded out here in the boonies.

So time to post this out for everyone and a new update started after my file is downloaded and confirmed good.

Nice update on your design challenge project. Wow, it sure takes a lot of memory (SD) to get anything done these day. Good luck on your project. Gene

I was a little surprised myself having thought I was working with plenty at 16gig. But I have never used his version of Kali and for this project thought it worth the time to take the recommendations.…

Bit late responding ...sorry. Just to be clear the Pi came from Newark so in theory it should be the same as any other USA version. I noticed the packaging was a one time use, not sure that I prefer that…
