The Academic Approach: Expansion Module on Modicon M251 - 2

The Modicon M251 has powerful features to connect each element of automation and control remote actuators or take information from remote sensors. In other hand, this does not mean that is local control is not allowed. The device takes advantages of expansion port to connect other devices like I/O since the Modicon M251 has not integrated this kind of systems like the M241. Each side of the module has labels that can be removed in order to integrate new features to the module.

Main Label

If you remove this label, you will be able to view a special connector for expansion modules which shares data and power according to the kind of module. This time I used the TM3DM24R, which is a Digital Input/Output Module, to use the new features to integrate the ladder logic in a local way.

Connectors

To integrate, you only need the power supply, the TM3DM24R connected with the M251 by the expansion port and an Ethernet wire to upload the latest program. The software required to design the logic is the EcoStruxure Machine Expert and I used an external Button to implement a toggle switch. According to the wiring manual, the TM3DM24R module could be used in positive logic or negative logic but for this test I used the positive logic. Don't worry about the logic with I/O since the three blocks available has isolated references to implement the better combination of logic.

To have a better perception about I made a video that is below. There are a description of the implementation and test of an oscillator using Set/Rest elements and turn on delayed timers using ladder logic.
