Software Licensing

pandoramc
pandoramc over 1 year ago

Recently I was checking the HMI and Modicon Device usage with the official Schneider Electric software, unfortunately, I got stuck with the following situation,

The operator terminal does not allow the interface upload since my software is in trial version, provided by the official Schneider web portal.

According to documentation, we require a Professional license to do it. I am not able to acquire a license, which is a bit expensive to use only in the challenge, and I worried about this because I think the Modicon M251 has the same mechanism.

Someone know how we can use the software with special licensing for the challenge? This brings a new challenge since the license was not considered in the original project.

I know I need to speak to a sales-guy regarding software licencing. Something I've been avoiding. Once sales knows you are interested it is hard to shake them. I'm a long way from a purchase commitment…

I would be interested in knowing what licenses are required to fully utilise the kit?

In a recent post  (Missing Forum Thread) RS made the following statement.

Roadtests are legally define as a contest, the kits are defined as winnings.

Congratulations you have won a car! No we don't provide keys to start it.

When I worked corporate it seemed impossible to avoid the license gambit. Equipment would be purchased and installed to discover options not included in the initial installation required additional licences to implement.

I pitched an application for this RoadTest. I'm curious to discover if my project would have been possible with the winnings from the RoadTest or would I have to purchase the keys to take my winnings home.

I though we were supposed to post in the forums first - to see if others in the Community knew of a solution.

Thank you for tagging Randall. Laughing  Maybe this was supposed to be part of the kit but the license doesn't flow through Newark/Farnell channels.

Anyway... all those selected will have the same challenge.

Yes, I agree, posting online is a good first step. Sometimes tagging is necessary to get the staff's attention where it's something that may be a roadblock or they might know and have an answer for you. Some things can take a while to resolve so getting the ball rolling is usually a good thing - in the meantime, I suppose contestants may have to work on other aspects. But then again, I suppose it is still early in the timeline so others may not have reached this point in their journey yet.

I'm not involved in this DC and haven't been following much, so apologies if this is something that was previously discussed or if I'm completely out of touch.

Gough Lui You are on the lead edge on this one.  Kudos to pandoramc for discovering this early.  I didn't plan to get to the HMI until later in the project.  Wow, would I have been surprised - and angry at myself for not looking earlier.

Yes, I was also looking for a good tutorial to get started with the PLC and display programming.  I've been able to set up a project target for TM251, then I get a firmware error.  So at least the trial version can see the PLC.

To reiterate, making the post is important for the good of RoadTesting and RoadTesters. I've used E14 forums to resolve many issue. For me I have to overcome the reluctance brought on by "is it really missing or is it really me."

Your post has benefited at least one challenger. Good luck.

it prints "selected" version... maybe it can be changed somewhere to the same value as in target?

I figured out I had to install the EcoStruxure Machine Expert Controller Assistant to upgrade the controller firmware.
