What Kind of Prizes Would You Like for Experimenting with Components Competitions

I seem to be running more and more experimenting Competitions. Since they are popular with element14 members, I will continue to run more of them.

Up until now, I usually pick some consumer electronics as prizes. But I don't feel I should limit myself to that category of prizes. Test equipment has suggested. So, let me put it up for a vote.

Interesting idea. So, how about this: let's say for the grand prize the winner gets two option: either a laptop or an o'scope. I think we can do that.

I voted other because: Test equipment is good but offering specific items makes the prize attractive or unattractive mostly according to what gear you already have. A test equipment voucher for either…

I voted DC bench power supply because that would encourage me most to participate. I am working on some USB PD stuff, so a fair bit of power is required.

A 3D printer would be nice.  And/or a CNC machine.

Good idea.  As an aside, it would be great if we could convert some of our contributor points to vouchers for the Farnell/Neware/Avnet stores.  More you contribute, the greater the rewards.

I think the prizes could be based on the theme along with another optional prize as suggested by Jan Cumps. For example, it the contest is about thermal switches/thermistors, the prize could be an option between thermal camera as was in last contest and laptop.
Speaking from my personal experience, a test and measurement equipment is always a better option as it will not only help the community members to build their own setup but also help in participating in various other contests and roadtests on e14.
I lack a DSO and signal generator in my home lab which kinda holds me back from doing experiments that involve filters, oscillating outputs or signal processing/conditioning circuits. So TMI equipments are the best possible prize (for me).

Can be this feature adapted to competitions?

Unfortunately not. There was a lot of management behind the scenes that was specific for the Azure Sphere and that product to allow that to happen. Slight smile

    how would this be different?

To show a bit behind the scenes behind the curtain, the shopping cart prizes, a member of our team orders the prizes for you with our staff account(s) - if we were able to give out vouchers, you'd be able to order it yourself Slight smile I'd love to be able to do shopping cart vouchers, but we don't have access to the online store system to do it, and a bunch of other process things.

I was looking at PCB Printers for a prize today. The ones I saw from quite pricey. Are there any on the market in the $1000-2000 range that you know of?

I am coming around to the idea that these are not going to see much use because board shops have done a great job of getting the cost of custom PCBs down and streamlining the ordering process. The Voltera V-One is about the best performance/price ratio out there, but stocking the materials is going to be costly for the occasional user. The V-One is in the $2K - $2.5K range.

Thanks for the info. Then I'm going to back away from a PCB Printer. There seems to be interest for a DSO, sig gen, dc power supply.
