Authenticity Service for Refurbished Parts

I'm part of the operations and maintenance team at my company. We are looking to purchase units for our systems. The issue is that our systems are old and we can only find refurbished parts, and due to security requirements, we need to perform tests on refurbished units to confirm their authenticity. Are there any vendors that are able to provide that service or know of someone who can?

I don't know if it will be easy - what exactly means "authentic"? And what means "security"? Security as "keeping parameters comparable to new and original parts" or "doesn't contain harmful - and usually software based - third-party modifications"? Do those parts include any firmware/software? Even if not, one will need to compare them with reference designs (that may be hard to obtain, manufacturers usually are not wiling to share internal documentation and docs for old parts can be already gone during mergers, hardware failures and similar) - or better, check with manufacturer if this particular S/N was really produced and what happened to it. Then check for possible substandard repair...

Maybe better approach would be to locate some (reputable) source decommissioning hardware that is containing required parts and refurbish them in-house? Or contact the manufacturer about certified refurbished spares if authenticity has to be proven?
