Linearly control output voltage from 80V to 260V AC Single Phase

Dear All,

 

Am looking forward in designing a product which can vary output voltage from 80V to 260V AC across load as per desired.

 

For example : Input voltage is 230V AC

 

I need an output of 100V....it should automatically correct to 100V o/p. If desired to be changed to 120V....it should auto correct.

I dont want to use a motorised auto transformer for this purpose as it is bulky and not cost effective.

Do help with ideas.

  • You need to tell us how much current there will be as well as the voltage you want. Is the working frequency 50 - 60Hz or over  a wider range ?

     

    Solid state  AC output converters with variable output voltage and frequency do exist but they are expensive.

     

    How many would you make and what is the application.

    Dear MK,

     

    Thanks for your reply. For 240V Current will be approx 52A. Working freq is 50Hz. Application is : I want to change the Kvar of Single Phase Power Capacitor by changing Voltage across the capacitor.

    I would think that a transfo with multiple taps is the safest for this kind of power (the one solution that you don't want). Then move it to the back of your garden image

     

    more than 12.000 Watt (or if the 52A is for the 100V output, still 5.200 W)  image

    I tried to post this yesterday but E14 was having problems - then I forgot about it until I saw Jan's reply.

     

    If you want the capacitor to appear to the rest of the circuit like a capacitor of different (adjustable) value then the ONLY way (that I can think of) you could do it is with a transformer. It would be far cheaper to switch different values of capacitor in and out of the circuit.

     

    If what you really want is for a motor load to have  a power factor of 1 then the best way is probably to use  a modern electronic motor controller - which may have other advantages.
