Pas Home - Index

Hi here is a little video of my first prototype to open and close my curtains. A drill, a pencil and fishing line.

The guy in the tackle shop find its pretty funny when I told him why I wanted durable good line. image

With 40 LB I should burn the motor before it breaks.

Why pencil and drill?, watch the video, poor pencil he had a hard time.

I looked at this and tried recalling what my son used for his version.

I can;t exactly recall but I think he used the following principles and his curtain track was not very good.

    1. Wrap the line once around a pulley of a large size to enable 360 degrees of contact.

    2. You can use a small geared motor with not a lot of reduction and then you can detect the motor current and stop it when it stalls/jams or goes into free running.

    3. If you can add a tensioner device, it will ensure the line is always tight.

Hi, yes i plan to use stepper motors. The drill is only for testing the concept with fishing line. Currently they have many friction i will try with pulley for more smooth action.

    Hi,

how very McGyver-ish of you image Will you be replacing the drill by a stepper motor or similar later on? Curious to see the final solution.

Bon travail, continue comme çà image

Warning the video is a bit long and redundant
