Pas Home - Index

Hi last week i made a small proto of temperature sensor case.

A little trip to the home contruction store and i buy 24x24 4.5mm acrylic clear board. With some work i made an very fonctionnal and quite aesthetic mounting support. 4.5mm is a bit too strong, a thinner acrylic also makes the job. I plan to make my curtain motor bracket with, that's why I bought the thicker.

I did not have the equipment to heat and bend the piece, so I use a lighter. His works but if it gets too hot and the fire takes and bubble are create in the plastic. image

For the version 2 i will buy a Heat Gun for best result. I use a Jigsaw to cut the piece but for the hole of solar captor it's not make nice straight line. Next time i will try with my cutting wheel.

For the next version I think i not make hole for solar captor. Does his will reduce returns, I'm not sure. Did someone try?

I use two-sided transparent tape to attach the sensor in the case and to the window frame.

    Nice job.

I'm faced with a similar issue making a holder for these.

I have a couple of ideas but whatever we do it's certainly tricky given their small size.

Having cut quite a bit of acrylic, you may find the cutting wheel creates too much friction.

I found a narrow (ie short between the cutting edge and rear) blade wood cutting blade in a variable speed jigsaw works best.

For straight lines a clamped guide helps, and use it on slow speed to stop the heat buildup as the blade rubs the cut material. (hence the narrow blade)

Masking Tape (used by painters) on the acrylic gives a good line and protects it from scratches.

Some jigsaws have 'slop' and the blade holder is able to rotate which does make it much harder.

To bend it, the commercial companies use a heated wire in a U section.

The piece is laid above the wire until it goes soft, then bent and held while it sets.

The heat gun will work but be aware it will also heat a wider area.

You can see the material go clear when it reaches the right temperature, and as you've found it's easy to get bubbles in it from too much heat.

Very nice job on the case. How many attempts did it require ?

I'm interested to see the curtain motor bracket image

Detailed steps on the job would be nice. Good work
