Earlier this week, the element14 community was introduced to an exciting new Raspberry Pi Accessory, the RPiSoC, which is currently seeking funding through Kickstarter:

I'm pleased to say that Embedit Electronics, in collaboration with Cypress Semiconductor, have allocated 17 prototype units for the challengers involved in the Forget Me Not Challenge.  They are currently winging their way to our warehouse.

In order to obtain one of these highly exclusive boards, only the most compelling use cases will do.  The competitors are invited to submit their proposals as comments in reply to this blog.  Thank you.

I've spent all day thinking about this and this is my response. Thank you very very much for giving me the chance of getting this SOC add-on board to the Raspberry Pi. It is a very nice board indeed. BUT…

I would like to use RPiSoC to implement I2C communication and some GPIO interface with Raspberry Pi to transfer some burden of PI for controlling application with OpenHAB to RPiSoC.

As PMOD and Arduino Compatible headers are available on RPiSoC it will be open doors of using PMOD and Arduino Ecosystem with Raspberry-Pi.

Regarding my forget_me_not project "My Smart Home" I will be use this RPiSoC board to interface Graphical LCD with touch panel on Arduino compatible header to provide easy to use fancy GUI to update user specific settings of openHAB application running on Pi..

    Like...

    1. Setting Email addresses of OpenHAB app (PI) and User.

    2. Setting OpenHAB user name and Password

    3. Setting Main label of OpenHAB application.

    4. start stop and Restart OpenHAB application.

    5. to know the system status

    6. etc..

Also I would like to Interface remote wireless receivers of different standard for controlling application (Including Binding Implementation for OpenHAB) like Relay switches, dimmer and servo motors to Raspberry Pi via RPiSoC using I2C protocol because UART is already used by enocean pi, so I can Hack my normal home appliances for controlling them using openHAB.

Mainly GUI implementation using RPiSoC is very useful because I would like to design my project by considering its end user in mind, who might not aware of linux, openHAB and Enocean sensors mostly.so user can configure the important settings of system (username, password, email addresses etc..) with easy to use GUI.

And here I was designing a board to get all kinds of inputs on my Pi image

With this board, I would be able to control various components of my Care system without going through the hassle of reinventing the weel!

    • controlling servo motor for the food dispenser
    • additional UARTs for serial sensor data (Pi UART already in use by EnOceanPi !)
    • enough I/O to connect all sensors to central unit instead of offloading to different Arduino boards

Looks like a very powerful and versatile board!

    Frederick
