FLORAbrella Update - Midnight Mischief

Hi, I've been busy gathering ideas for my umbrella.  Here's the mighty beast -- a large dome umbrella with silver trim and a ginormous handle that's even too big for Mary Poppins.  I can tell you that no matter what size the power supply, the horrible crook will be getting removed!  Other than that, it is pretty darn cool. Speaking of power supply, the other night I involved two guys at my hackerspace in a friendly debate on powering 5m worth of neopixels.  The results were rather inconclusive, as we are all unsure whether they can all be powered off of one LiPo 2600Mah.  As for the wiring, I'm favoring using two pins with 4 strips each on the FLORA.  Now I just have to figure out gauge of wire, which for power and ground looks like it may have to be fairly thick.  That will present another challenge in the shaft of the umbrella.  But, hey, let's not hold up the midnight mischief any longer...

I was up late tonight and decided to load the FLORA Arduino environment and get to work.  Had a few fights with the Com ports on my computer, and then things worked out fine.  Check it out!

They are actually blinding.  I could no longer make out any markings on them and would have to unplug the FLORA just to let my eyes adjust in order to troubleshoot the cables.  The neopixels are impressive and the video doesn't do justice to the smooth light fades.  I almost was going to wire up the broach on Adafruit's site, but I was like, "Don't give in to temptation".

    Hi Leslie,

It looks like you are making good progress.

I agree with Drew, those lights will definatly draw attention when you walk around with them on.
