Today the Flora kit came in! All kinds of sensors, wires and of course the Flora itself came out of a black cardboard box (check Leslie's or Bill's unboxing videos to see exactly what was in the box). So as soon as my son was sleeping, I set to work
I have to point out that I have zero experience with Arduino or electronics, so I had no idea what to expect or where to start.. So I checked the Adafruit website and there I found the tutorials on the Flora. First up was the 'Getting started with Flora' http://learn.adafruit.com/getting-started-with-flora . That was fairly easy, I could follow the steps without too much difficulty. I found out how to add extra examples to my Arduino Library, which is real handy! I now know that my NeoPixels work And may I say that I'm pretty proud off myself? I did this all by myself! It may be the easiest thing in the world for you guys, but it's a first for me. So when my Pixel began showing pretty colors I let out a loud Jeeeeej!!
After that I went on with my Color Sensor, since that's a very important part off my project. For this sensor I also installed some examples in the library. But this is where trouble starts.. Everything is attached and working according to plan. I got to the point where I could get the sensor to detect colors off objects I held in front of it. The color is then transfered to the NeoPixel I'd connected. Sometimes the color was quite right, a red can gave me a nice red Pixel and a bit of green felt made a bright green pixel. But when I held the sensor in front of a dark blue piece of felt, the Pixel turned a sort of pinkish orange.. Hmm.. not quite what I expected! And so the puzzle starts I don't have time to start looking for answers now, so I hope I can get started on this somewhere next week.
Speaking of puzzels.. there's also good news!
Earlier this week I decided to check if my plan would theoratically work. I need to visualize what I'm doing, so I made a sketch of the Flora and everything I need to connect to see if it would fit! It was quite a puzzle, but in the end it all fits! Woot!
I was a bit worried about this, because I have no idea how I would have been able to fix it. But it fits, so that's one thing less to worry about!
This weekend I'll be out camping with my son, and the laptop stays at home, so I won't be updating. I did pack (with the inflatable matras, tent and sleeping bag) bits of felt and foam. So I hope I'll be able to work on the actual camera at night, sitting besides a nice campfire So next week I'll update on the progress of the part of this challenge that i really do understand!
Have a nice weekend everyone!
