Easter bonnet #8 - Ribbon

Before I can start combining all the elements I have (so far) on the hat, I needed to construct the ribbon going around the hat. As you may recall from earlier posts, I want to incorporate the Gemma on the hat as the knot of the bow at the bag of the hat. I could have used the ribbon that came attached to the hat to form the bow, but it was black and I didn't feel this was an Easter/springtime colour so I swapped it for an orange ribbon. Well...that was after very, very gently easing off the black ribbon, which the manufacturer had fixed onto the hat (with glue) extremely well!

I used some double sided sticky tape to keep the ribbon in place as I wrapped it around the hat and then used some stitches (with orange thread) to help it stay there. At the back I just crossed over the 2 ends where they met and tacked them in place.

To make the bows, I took 2 16cm strips of the ribbon and folded them over on themselves.

These were then tacked onto the hat.

In the middle of the bow, the Gemma will reside. Something like I have mocked up in the next picture with a purple disc showing where the Gemma would go:

Now the bow has been constructed and the flowers have been made, the next step is to sew everything (NeoPixels, Gemma, et al.) onto the hat. Exciting, apprehensive times ahead!

    Looking good.

I can see where the LEDs will provide the color highlights.

Should be quite a sight in a darkened room.
